"Oh sure, I'll get some things ready" She said with a smile and went to get some snacks and drinks for them.

Charles hurriedly opened the door to his small closet.  As an afterthought, to mask the noise his machine would almost certainly be making, he put his iPod into the dock on his alarm clock and started to play some classical music-far louder than he'd ever really listen to it.  It was faintly audible through the wall in Keva's dorm room.

Keva glanced over and tilted her head, wondering why someone was playing their music so loud, but she shrugged and continued making snacks for her and Charles.

Charles' hands shook like mad as he input a vast number of commands into the machine, which perhaps set his destination off by... 200 years or so?  Not much of a difference, considering where he was going.  Finally, he shut the door to his machine and breathed a sigh of relief.  Within an instant, he'd literally vanished from his room.

Keva sighed and waited for him, sitting on her couch and watching the door, wondering when he'd come back.

First ten minutes passed, then an hour, and there was still no sign of the intelligent boy.

Keva eventually gave up, feeling like she had done something wrong, she laid on her bed and curled up, whimpering.

Charles was suddenly struck by guilt, wondering if he'd done the right thing. He thought about Keva, how she must feel now that he'd just outright abandoned her.

Keva eventually forced herself to get over him, though a few times a day she'd think about him, Keva though never went on dates, still waiting for Charles.

Charles simply made do with what he had, using what was at hand in his new, prehistoric home to build a shelter up in the trees out of old parts of his machine. He had a nightly fire and no shortage of edible small birds he trapped out of the canopies around him. It wasn't until months later that he realized: he'd made a fatal mistake. Something was still lying in his dorm that could allow anyone who could read a blueprint to follow him.

After three years, Keva was asked to help clean out his room, Keva was the first one in and she found the blueprint, tilting her head and reading it over, trying to make sense of it.

While some of the language on the plan was technical and complex, it basically said "put the things here, here, and here, attach that one to this one, and travel through time." The parts were in no short supply, found in bins in his closet.

She thought and began doing what the blueprint said.

No small number of failed prototypes sat scattered around the dorm room, offering Keva clues as to what not to do.

Keva did as the blueprint said and finished the machine.

The unfortunate thing about Charles, however, is that he'd simply remembered the controls and how to work them, not writing them down anywhere at all.

She sighed and pressed a few buttons, trying to see what would happen.

All that transpired at first was a small cloud of smoke floating into the air.

She jumped slightly then raised a brow, pressing a few more buttons randomly.

Eventually, the red LED screen lit up, displaying a number- the current year.

She jumped again slightly before she raised a brow, questioning what was going on.

The dial on the left of the display, borrowed from an old car radio, blinked once, suggesting she should try manipulating it.

She glanced toward the old car radio and she turned the knobs.
