Aleks followed Addie, at her side and a few steps behind. He wondered how long it would take before the humans intensified their efforts as they walked down the winding road, leading lower and lower towards the valley floor.

After walking for some time, he turned to her and asked "I don't zink I got your name." Again, he turned his head, embarrassed that his thick accent broke through again.

"Oh, it's Addie." She said, not really caring about his accent any for the fact she had hidden away an Irish accent from being raised there. She usally never used it unless she was very angry, which happened once in the lab once when a scientist tried sticking a needle in her neck. Let's just say he got bitten pretty bad.

Aleks dipped his head in greeting to her. "Aleks." Walking a little closer to her side, he decided to strike up a conversation to pass the time. "Where are you from?"

"Well. I was born and raised in Ireland but then started traveling the world till my owner got to sick and gave me to these people. I don't think she wanted me to be used as a lab experiment though." The she dog explained as she kept an eye out for danger.

He nodded. "I doubt that." Turning to look down the road, he replied "I was captured from the wilderness in Siberia. I think I was bred by a human couple, but released me when they couldn't feed me any more during the vinter."

Addie nodded, eyes gleaming bright as she looked around, still enjoying the wilderness more than anything. She however did miss her owner though and hoped one day to get back to her so they could go on adventures one day.

Finally, after what must have been hours of walking, the pair came across a mountain town, mostly built around the two-lane highway their gravel path now intersected. Aleks looked both ways down the highway, trying to figure out where they should go.

Addie seemed to be listening for something, eyes closed as she thought about. As she did, she quickly glanced up and looked at the road as she heard a car not to far down the road. She wasn't for sure what type it was, from the lab or not, so she ducked down just in case.

Aleks joined her, deciding to save his invisibility for when they really got in trouble.

As she watched quietly, it was an old pickup truck. Nothing really bad or anything.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Aleks stood up and looked around. "you lived with humans longer than me, where do we go to find a map?"

"Well, resting area's are a good place to start. If not we could sneak into the store." Addie answered before standing up.

He nodded, again looking down both sides of the basically deserted highway. "Perhaps vat's a good place." He looked towards a rest stop further down the hill, with a visitor's center.

"Yea, that's good." Addie said, eyes bright in happiness before starting to walk over there with ears perked for sounds. The she dog hoped to find an airport after she helped Aleks.

Aleks stopped outside the door, the only thing there appeared to be a forest service truck parked in the very furthest reaches of the gravel lot.

Addie blinked at the truck, eyes full of interest at the truck but more worry about getting inside. Looking at the door, she looked at it, trying to decide if it was a push or pull door.

Aleks decided there was no time for thought and jumped up, throwing all his weight behind the effort to push the door open. Instead, he got a face full of glass as the door refused to push open.

Looking at him, she giggled slightly with a smile. "Well, it's a pull." Raising up, she carefully put her paws on the wall beside the door before using her mouth to grab the door knob and trying to open it.

"Turn it." He offered a suggestion as the door refused to budge, referring to the knob she was gripping.

When the door was barely open, Aleks added himself, sticking a paw into the narrow crack to open the door the rest of the way.

Aleks waited, ears perked for danger. Suddenly, he thought he scented something familiar, and out of a hunch, he peeked beneath the truck and saw the ATVs from earlier parked in a near line behind the truck. Quietly, he ducked inside to locate Addie and inform her of the danger.
